Thank you for the thoughts on exercise! Clearly Qigong is a big favorite. I have also really enjoyed yoga. Walking as been good when I’m feeling OK.  The entire family has been hit with a cold and we are all struggling with coughs, stuffed noses, laryngitis, etc. What a shame…and on Rachel’s birthday too. Incidentally, the weather here is now in the 90s at the high end. In any case, once I am better, I will get back into the exercise. Can’t wait!

In the meantime, I went to get a blood draw on Monday and I told the receptionist I wasn’t feeling well (nausea, coughing etc.) and wow did that make things happen! I guess my cancer kind of gives me the equivalent of platinum status with the airlines. Well, that combined with the fact that the infusion nurse is nothing short of amazing, really made a difference. I am surrounded by so many wonderful professionals. The short of it is I saw my internal medicine doctor on the spot who agreed to another CA 27-29 blood marker count. Of course it’s only been 2 weeks since the last draw, but (HOLD YOUR BREATH!), it’s down another 10 points! Wow! More on this after I talk with the oncologist next week.  See my happy updated chart below!

June 1 CA 27_29 Marker

Bottom line on chemo this week. It was uneventful. Carboplatin is out of my life forever. Mixed blessing since it was part of the trio which was working but we’re going to see the two remaining chemo meds (Taxol and Herceptin) through until September. In the meantime, no more allergic reactions. That’s a relief!

10 POINTS!! Awesome! A couple more of those and we’re sitting at ZERO. Let’s hope the remaining 2 drugs will work their magic. Would you think that the Herceptin and Taxol lowered this most recent number or was it part Carbo? I guess we’ll find out with your next reading. Lets hope your feeling better and the appetite comes back.

Great news. If you get a chance, maybe you could elaborate on the CA 27_29 Marker values and trend mean to your oncologist? Or maybe post a link to a web reference on that.

Jeremy Says:

Here’s a quick summary of the markers:

CA 27.29 is a mucus-containing protein that is produced by the MUC-1 gene. Breast cancer cells will shed copies of the CA 27.29 protein in to the bloodstream. During treatment, levels of CA 27.29 may fall, indicating that treatment is effectively killing the cancer. If CA 27.29 levels rise, the cancer may be progressing and it may be necessary to adjust treatments accordingly.

Constie also provided some detail on this post (below the graph).

Hey Constance!

Congratulations on the low CA 27-29! You Resilience Team photo looks wonderful too. We are impressed with the graph you folks created to show the DESTRUCTION of the cancer. May the cancer keep being defeated and out-smarted.
