What a fascinating thing that there can be several ways to treat the same problem. With great thanks to a friend who introduced me to him, I went to a gifted naturopathic healer this weekend that was able to largely solve my hearing loss problem in about an hour. How amazing is that? The extent of his ministrations included pulling my neck and (almost painfully) massaging my hands. I guess the take away here is that parts of the body are connected in unexpected ways and that some people are just incredibly intuitive and gifted. I am just tremendously grateful to have a good portion of my hearing back. It makes such a difference!

Meanwhile, I am so sorry to hear of the number of women I either know or know people I know who are being diagnosed with breast cancer. It is most distressing. What is it with women who live in the Washington, D.C. area that makes us so vulnerable to cancer?  I looked up statistics on breast cancer in Maryland, Virginia and DC and they are no higher than the rest of the country and are considerably lower than places with lots of chemical processing such as New Jersey and Louisiana. It still feels like we are unusually at risk.

On a final note, an interesting article in the New York Times on how early diagnoses of breast cancer can be misleading.

Prone to Error: Earliest Steps to Find Cancer — Due to outright error and case-by-case disagreement, biopsy diagnosis  often leads to unnecessary surgery.

It was over 100 degrees in Washington, DC today! Hope you are all hanging in there and staying cool!

Great news about your hearing! It’s hard to know when things are or are not going to work. Sometimes you just have to take the plunge and believe that the net will be there.

It is so great to see you here! Sorry to hear about hearing and relieved to know that it is coming back.

I have been reminded of how precious to be with friends and families and to be able to work on things we truly believe and enjoy.

Take good care my dearest friend! I have been thinking of you from China and am looking forward to seeing you in September.

Big hugs and love,
Xuehua

Wow, Constie, what an interesting and multi-faceted experience you are having with the healing “arts”–from radiation to shrink brain tumors to massaging hands to relieve hearing loss. What a collection of crazy things your body is going through.

I continue to think about you and hope for continued improvements. Thanks for your honest blogging.

Isn’t the body an amazing thing! And how wise the ancient arts… :) I’m thrilled to hear your success story, and your willingness to try “alternative therapies” (many of which should be more mainstream, esp. with a great practitioner). Stay cool! Love, J

Hi Constie,
You are amazing, WOW ! I just saw the short film clip on your team raising $13,000 for Susan B. Komen; way to go! Interesting about the hearing loss….never knew it could be a side affect of breast cancer. So glad to find out you had success in getting it partially restored. Can’t wait to see you next week!

Constie!

It is thrilling to read about the amazing change the naturopathic doctor was able to bring about! I agree that the body does indeed seem to be a unit and the emotions, physical parts etc. all together seem to make up the whole.

I saw Hyla the other day and in short order she put my tennis elbow back into working gear. We are so lucky to have each of us found a practitioner who seems to be able to help us.

Am looking forward to seeing you in just a week or two. I wish I could send you some of Seattle’s cool weather.

Meanwhile love to all,

Mom

Jennifer Downs Says:

seems like my folks are climbing mountains or walking trails in Maine a few times a week. They must be in great shape! I will soon put pictures from the trip up somewhere for folks to see. I am on a learning curve about that!

Doreen Sterling Says:

So glad you got some of your hearing back. That’s wonderful.

Ginzy Lamprecht Says:

Wow, how shocking and amazing in some ways that a naturopathic healer could bring back your hearing!!!! How amazing and wonderful!!! Obviously healing takes two–the healer and the one healed. What did you do on your end to help make this happen?

CJ Lucke Says:

INGREDIENTS
Cut the following four ingredients into large chunks:
6 unpeeled carrots
2 unpeeled medium yellow onions
1 leek, both white and green parts
1 bunch celery including the heart
4 unpeeled cloves garlic, halved
1/2 bunch flat leaf Italian parsley
4 medium red potatoes, quartered with skins on
2 Japanese yam or Hannah’s or 2 sweet potatoes, quartered with skins on
1 Garnet yam, quartered with skin on
1 tablespoon sea salt
1 (six inch by one inch) strip of Kombu
2 bay leaves
12 peppercorns
4 whole allspice or juniper berries

DIRECTIONS
In a 12-quart stockpot, combine all ingredients. Fill the pot to two inches below the rim with water, cover and bring to a boil.
Remove lid, decrease heat to low, and simmer a minimum of two hours. As the stock simmers some water will evaporate; add more if vegetables begin to peek out. Simmer until the full richness of the vegetables can be tasted.
Strain stock using a large-mesh strainer (remember a heat resistant container underneath)
Bring to room temperature before refrigerating or freezing.
Makes 6 to 7 quarts.

The above recipe is suppose to be Magic Mineral Broth to help you heal ;-)

Yes, I’m doing it again – I signed up for the 2010 Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure! I had such an incredible experience doing the Komen 3-Day for the Cure last year. I’ll walk 60 miles over the course of three days with thousands of other women and men. This event isn’t easy, but I promise you, I wouldn’t be doing it if I didn’t believe 100% that it was worth every muscle ache, weary night and training walk! I’ve agreed to raise $2300.00. If anyone is able to donate please visit http://www.the3day.org and visit my participant page listed under Jamie Corbett. I hope you’ll share this incredible adventure with me.
